Charcters I Zenyatta Tekhartha

SERIES I Overwatch

Construction notes i

The patterns for this costume were made in a 3D program called Pepakura File Builder. After they were created and sized correctly they were printed onto cardstock and transferred over to 5mm EVA foam. Some pieces were not modeled and were just free handed like the hands, fingers, legs, and chest. The main things that were patterned were the helmet and the arms because of their specific design. The helmet is made of craft foam and covered in thermo plastic to keep it sturdy. Holes were cut using a dremel and a hot wire cutter and one blue EL wire was wrapped in a coil and glued to a blue folder to keep its shape and color. Black netting was put behind the eyes so my real eyes couldnt be visible. The helmet attaches with velcro to the body suit underneath. The "nuts and bolts" are EVA foam carved with a dremel and glued to the body suit as well. The base chest piece is EVA foam held together at the side with two big snaps and the top chest pieces snaps onto it also at the sides. The pipes are pvc pipes cut down and covered in foam and hand painted and glued onto the chest pieces. The stomach is a combination of EVA foam and pvc pipes glued together and just tucked into the pants. The arms are also eva foam glued together with barge cement and connect at the joints with industrial snaps so they can move, extension cord wires were cut, painted red, and glued in to look like real wiring. The shoulders are EVA foam circles and half circles held onto the chest piece by velcro. The hands are craft foam covered in thermoplastic to stay sturdy with EVA foam detailing glued on top. The fingers are made of straight craft foam. One Belt is a home decor cord that was dyed yellow and has a giant beaded tassel made from Styrofoam balls, brushed out yarn, and home decor trim. Another belt was made from strips of EVA foam cut and painted and glued together. The tabbard is made from red quilters fabric that was burned with a lighter and painted to look weathered and was sewn to a tube that was stuffed and made of the same material. The "skirt" in the back is white linen that was burned on the bottom and I made a stencil so i could hand paint the design on the back in a gradient of grays but its hard to see in the pictures. Both the tabbard and skirt snap together in the back. The pants are a yellow linen with elastic at the waist and calves and hand painted to look weathered. The legs are EVA foam that slide onto the legs. The shoes are loafers from goodwill that I used to make a pattern and cover in crafts foam and thermoplastic. They slide right on top of the loafers and the "straps" of the shoes are extension cord wire painted red and glued on. Lastly the orbs are styrofoam balls with details cut into them with a hot wire cutter and dremel. The had holes poked in them so i could feed a clear plumping tube through them to keep them together and they're hand painted gold and blue. All armor pieces are hand painted silver and detailed with a silver and white paint marker to make it stand out.

Personal Notes I

This costume is my pride and joy. Its been through three different iterations over the past couple of years which can be seen in these photos. I love the character a lot and I loved putting time into this costume. It really means a lot to me :)

Construction notes i

This was another quick costume that only took about 2 weeks to make. For the hat I bought a cheap cowboy hat on amazon and cut the brim off, I covered it in pleather and hand stitched the sides and ends. For the top I just made it out of craft foam and did the same and attached the two in the middle. I made a band out of a stretch vinyl and slid it on. The bodysuit was bought on amazon and dyed using a mixture of two different grey dyes and I used black leather paint to paint the stripes down the front and legs. There are brown leather cuffs sewn onto the sleeves as well. The shawl is made of three pieces, the top is a circle with a foam interfaced collar sewn onto it, the second is a half circle and "W" shape with slots sewn in so a foam belt could slide into it, the last layer is the cape and all pieces are made of black stretch vinyl. The chest and back pieces is several pieces of 5mm eva foam hand painted and glued together. There are brown leather straps that connect with parachute buckles at the sides and top glued onto the chest and back to get it on and off. The chaps are made with black pleather patterned by me and a regular belt slides through them to keep them up. The chaps have leather detailing sewn on and the gun holster made of fabric covered foam is velcroed on top. The belt buckle is carved eva foam pieces glued onto a thermoplastic base and painted gold with slots on the back so the belt can slide through. The knee pads are eva foam hand painted and also have brown leather straps that come apart with velcro. The shoes were heels purchased from good will and painted black and silver with foam detail glued on. Real spurs were purchased and slid onto the boots and the shoe armor is made of foam and painted and have an elastic so they slide onto the shoes. The gun was 3D printed and purchased from etsy and filled and sanded by me. I hand painted it and added details with a white and silver paint marker.

Personal Notes I

This costume was fun and easy to make because huge parts of it were just bought and altered but I tried a new painting style with it by using leather paint instead of acrylic and everything turned out so smooth looking the finished product turned out pretty good. Not to mention black and red is my favorite color combination.

Construction notes i

The helmet was drafted by hand out of craft foam and then covered with two layers of worbla for stability. Details were made with 6mm eva foam to make them stand out more and black mesh was added behind the eye holes to cover my actual eyes. The black and white were spray painted on and the blue is hand brushed blue chameleon paint to give it that shine to match the reference material. The hat was a bought white baseball cap that I dyed blue and painted on details as well as used iron on white vinyl to do the symbol and top stitched it down so it wouldn't peel off. The shirt was originally bought white but I dyed with the same dye for the hat so they matched. The side panels were cut and replaced with white jersey knit and extra stitches were added in white thread all around the shirt to match the reference material. Other white details were added with white bias tape. The "Iris" logo is done with blue and white vinyl cut my hand and layered on top of each other and the name and numbers on the back are iron on baseball text and has a fuzzy texture. The original buttons were taken off and replaced by newer, bigger, white ones. The pants were bought baseball pants that I sewed blue bias tape down the length and cut and ironed on the blue meteor symbol. The arms and hands were patterned by me, made with 6mm eva foam and worbla, and entirely painted and shaded with spray paint. The baseballs were bought plastic kids toys that I burned holes into and fed a clear plumping tubing through and the stitches were painted blue with a paint marker. The socks (not pictured) are a pair of blue and white knee socks seen together. The shoes (not pictured) were bought second hand and originally all white. I hand painted them with leather paint to match the source material including the soles of the shoes.

Personal Notes I

I have been wanting to make this costume since it was released in August of '18 and I am glad I was finally able to. I think all the shades of blue work perfectly together and this was super fun to make.
